Sonya Gaither (pictured above, right, with Citizens Bank’s Chris Treat), principal at West Elementary in Batesville, is the recipient of the November Citizens Bank “Above & Beyond” Award.
According to a release from Citizens Bank, “an encouraging spirit, paired with a caring leadership style, has allowed Sonya to leave a positive impact on the staff and students she guides.”
Gaither’s colleagues have said:
• “I have never felt as close to teachers or support staff as I do here at West, and that is a testimony that starts with Mrs. Gaither. She is a huge advocate for her staff and their needs or concerns. Mrs. Gaither goes above and beyond for students, staff, and parents at West.”
• “Mrs. Gaither has the uncanny ability to know the individual needs of each staff member. She leaves encouraging notes on our desks, her door is always open to listen, and she gives 120% effort in everything that she does. She knows the name of every single student that enters West Elementary each day. She greets every child with a smile in the car line and works tirelessly to make West a great place to learn.”
• “Mrs. Gaither is always looking for new ways to ensure students succeed. She cares deeply about their academic success and their overall well-being. Mrs. Gaither also listens to teachers’ concerns and treats them with respect. She always projects a positive attitude.”
Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges.
Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card, and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
