An Izard County couple has been charged with multiple felonies after an attempted break-in and assault, according to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office.

Justin Murphy (pictured above, left), 32, faces charges including three counts of aggravated assault, residential burglary, terroristic threatening, criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a minor. Keira Shepherd (right), 22, is charged with aggravated assault, residential burglary, terroristic threatening, criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The charges stem from an incident reported at approximately 10:30 p.m. on August 8. According to the victims, Murphy and Shepherd confronted them outside their home on Wideman Road. Murphy allegedly pointed a shotgun at one of the victims, who was holding a juvenile, while accusing them of theft and assault. Murphy tripped, dropped the shotgun, and as the victims attempted to flee, Shepherd reportedly struck one of them with a golf club, according to court documents.

The couple then allegedly forced their way into the home, making threats before the victims managed to escape and contact authorities. Sgt. Mike Smith of the Izard County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, but Murphy and Shepherd had fled before deputies could apprehend them.

According to the sheriff’s office, Murphy and Shepherd were located on Monday and arrested without incident. They each face a $50,000 bond.
