The American Red Cross will open a Disaster Assistance Center in Hardy on Thursday to help residents whose homes were damaged by recent tornadoes, flooding, and severe weather.
The center will be located at the Historic Old Hardy Gym, 201 School Ave., open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 1.
Red Cross personnel will be available to discuss eligibility for financial assistance with those affected by the storms.
Individuals seeking information and wishing to register for potential financial aid are encouraged to visit the center. They can also begin the registration process online by completing a form at www.redcross.org/gethelp.

The Red Cross is also offering disaster mental health support. Anyone in need of emotional assistance following the severe weather can contact the Disaster Distress Helpline free of charge by calling or texting 1-800-985-5990.
The organization is encouraging the public to support disaster relief efforts. Donations can be made by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767), or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Online donations can be made at www.redcross.org. Those interested in volunteering for future disasters can find more information at www.redcross.org/volunteer.
Cash donations are preferred as they allow the Red Cross to provide flexible and immediate assistance to those affected by disasters.
