President Donald J. Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for Arkansas, making federal assistance available to help communities recover from severe storms and tornadoes that struck the state March 14–15.

The declaration, announced Monday by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, opens up federal funding for individuals in nine counties: Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp, and Stone.

Available aid includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs aimed at helping individuals and business owners recover from the disaster.

Roland W. Jackson has been appointed the Federal Coordinating Officer for recovery operations. FEMA said additional counties may be designated for aid if requested by the state and supported by damage assessments.

Residents and business owners in the affected areas can apply for assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362, or through the FEMA App. Individuals using relay services, such as video relay or captioned telephone service, are encouraged to provide FEMA with the appropriate service number.
