The Batesville School District has announced two key leadership appointments for the upcoming school year, naming Scott Carpino as assistant principal at Batesville Junior High Charter School and Rachel Horn as the district’s new director of curriculum and instruction.

According to a release from the district, Carpino brings more than 15 years of experience in education and school administration. He began his career in 2009 at Brookland Junior High, teaching physical education and coaching football. He later held several roles in the Harrisburg School District, including agriculture teacher, football coach, ALE coordinator, and interim administrator.

From 2019 to 2021, Carpino served as assistant principal at Wynne High School. Most recently, he was principal at Barton High School.

“I’m excited to join the incredible team at Batesville Junior High,” Carpino said. “This district has a reputation for putting students first, and I’m honored to contribute to that mission.”

Carpino holds a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Arkansas State University, a master’s degree in principalship, and a specialist degree in superintendency. In his new role, he will focus on student discipline and supporting a positive learning environment.

Superintendent Dr. Ginni McDonald said Carpino’s broad experience and student-centered approach make him a strong addition to the leadership team.

“Mr. Carpino’s commitment to students makes him a great fit for Batesville Junior High,” McDonald said.

Horn, the district’s new director of curriculum and instruction, has nearly two decades of experience in education. She most recently served as director of the PEER Network for the Arkansas Public School Resource Center and Crowley’s Ridge Educational Service Cooperative. In that role, she led a school improvement model that supported more than 100 schools across the state.

Horn previously worked at the Arkansas Department of Education as director of curriculum and assessment, where she led statewide initiatives in math, literacy, and science. She also helped districts with curriculum design, teacher development, and assessment systems.

“I’m honored to join the Batesville School District,” Horn said. “It’s a privilege to bring my experience supporting teachers and leaders across the state to a district so deeply committed to putting students first.”

Horn holds an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Harding University, and master’s degrees from Arkansas State University and the University of Central Arkansas. Her certifications include licensure as a district administrator, building-level administrator, and secondary mathematics teacher.

“Rachel’s extensive background in curriculum, assessment, and school improvement gives her a unique perspective that will help drive academic success,” McDonald said.
