Law enforcement agencies in Independence County recently completed a series of compliance checks on registered sex offenders as part of an ongoing effort to ensure adherence to state registration requirements.
The Independence County Sheriff’s Department, working with the Arkansas Department of Corrections Division of Community Corrections and Batesville Police Department, checked 72 registered offenders during the operation dubbed “Operation Fun in the Sun.”
Of those checked, 42 were found in full compliance with state laws, while 19 had minor violations and four are under investigation for possible charges. Eight additional compliance checks remain to be completed in the coming days.
Officers verified current residential addresses, employment information, and other state-mandated conditions during the checks. Violations discovered included failure to register current addresses, noncompliance with residency restrictions, failure to update driver’s licenses, failure to report social media accounts, and failure to update employment information.
“Ensuring compliance with these laws is vital to community safety,” according to a statement from the participating agencies. “These checks serve as both a reminder and an enforcement tool to hold offenders accountable.”
The agencies said they will continue conducting periodic compliance checks to enhance public safety and ensure registered offenders meet all legal obligations.
