Habitat for Humanity of La Pine Sunriver is calling on creative minds and DIY enthusiasts to take part in the ReStore Upcycle Challenge, a unique opportunity to turn discarded items into one-of-a-kind treasures — all while helping build homes for local families in need.
Beginning September 16, participants can visit the La Pine ReStore to select an item to upcycle from the store’s Upcycle collection then transform it using their imagination, tools, and talent. Finished pieces must be returned by November 17 to be entered into a silent auction, running November 19 through December 19 both in-store and online. All proceeds support Habitat’s mission to build safe, affordable housing in South Deschutes County.
“This challenge is about more than just creativity,” said Executive Director Kim Gammond. “It’s about sustainability, community pride, and giving new life to materials — just like Habitat gives new life to families through homeownership.”
The event will culminate with a public showcase of the top entries at Habitat’s BINGO Night Fundraiser on December 10 at Century Commons. Entries will also be judged by community leafers, with prizes awarded to the top three upcycles:
- 1st Place – $150 ReStore Gift Card
- 2nd Place – $100 Gift Card
- 3rd Place – $50 Gift Card
Entry Fee: $50, which includes one item from the ReStore and entry into the challenge. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate.

Founded in 1993, Habitat for Humanity of La Pine Sunriver has built more than 40 affordable homes in three neighborhoods, including Putney Place. Habitat provides more than 100 critical, health and safety repairs to neighbors across South Deschutes County each year, and runs a thriving ReStore in La Pine.
