A downtown park is getting a fresh look, and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting the community to celebrate.
A ribbon-cutting for the renovated Maxfield Park will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. The half-acre park, located between Broad Street and North Central Avenue, features salvaged stonework, a stage, waterfall, and playground — all recently upgraded with new turf.
The project was made possible through the combined efforts of community partners. Midwest Lime Co. donated 56 tons of limestone, while City of Batesville crews prepared the site, and Forever Lawns of the Ozarks installed the turf. The Anne Strahl Trust, which originally donated the land, also funded the renovation and continues to support the park’s upkeep.
“This project is such a beautiful example of what can happen when people come together,” said Amy Crouch-Howard of the Batesville Downtown Foundation. “Maxfield Park has always been about community, and this renovation makes it an even better place for families, friends, and neighbors to gather.”
Crouch-Howard called the park “a living part of our downtown and a symbol of what Batesville can accomplish when we invest in our city’s heart.”
The foundation also thanked longtime supporter Danny Dozier and others who have dedicated their time and resources to the park since its creation in 2015.
