A Searcy County man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to killing his wife last year.
According to the Arkansas State Police, Jeffery Stansbery, 76, of St. Joe pleaded guilty Friday in Searcy County Circuit Court to capital murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of his wife, Amanda Stansbery, 43. He was sentenced to life without parole plus 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
Deputies found Amanda Stansbery’s body at her home on Chipley Road on Sept. 5, 2024. The Searcy County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division after receiving a report that Jeffery Stansbery told medical staff at Cox Medical Center in Branson, Missouri, that he had harmed his wife.
Authorities said Stansbery went to the hospital seeking treatment for a medical condition when he made the admission.
