Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity hosted a home dedication ceremony on October 9th to welcome nine families into their new homes at Daly Estates, and to honor a meaningful milestone: more than 250 local individuals and families have now achieved homeownership through the organization since its founding in 1989.
Daly Estates features a mix of one- and four-bedroom energy-efficient townhomes designed to reduce monthly living costs and increase long-term financial stability for homeowners. Nearly 80% of these newly dedicated homes were purchased by women- led households. The development includes a veteran and several first-generation homebuyers.
“This milestone is about more than numbers,” said Carly Colgan, CEO of Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity. “It represents more than 250 households who’ve partnered with us, rolled up their sleeves, and built stability and opportunity through affordable homeownership. This community, and every home we build, is proof that when people come together to love their neighbors, transformation follows.”
Each homeowner participated in a comprehensive education and partnership program, contributing time and energy to help build their homes and support others in the community. Alongside financial mentors, they developed personalized budgets, built credit, and prepared for the responsibilities of homeownership. Through this process, families gain more than a home—they gain the confidence, knowledge, and community connection to thrive as empowered, engaged homeowners.
Kristin Holton, one of the new Daly Estates homeowners, reflected on what this new chapter means to her family. “Owning a home embodies the promise of a secure environment where my children can thrive and find their own space to bloom.”
These homes are made possible through broad community support, including volunteers, donors, and critical funding from city, state, and federal partners. It takes all of us to make homeownership affordable. While each home costs about $450,000 to build, Habitat sells them at a significantly reduced price, creating a pathway to ownership for families who can afford monthly payments around $1,500. At Daly Estates, the four-bedroom homes sold for around $200,000 and the one-bedroom homes for about $140,000, making homeownership possible for those priced out of the traditional market.
As Bend-Redmond Habitat looks ahead to building hundreds more homes in the coming years, the impact of days like this continues to echo through neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. “Every key handed over at a dedication is a reminder that affordable
homeownership changes everything,” Colgan said. “Together, we build what tomorrow depends on.”
