About 100 soldiers from the Arkansas Army National Guard’s 142nd Field Artillery Brigade will deploy to Washington, D.C., later this month to support civil security operations, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Monday.
The deployment, approved by Sanders, is a federally funded mission to assist the D.C. National Guard with security presence patrols and law enforcement support. The mission is expected to last several months.
Guardsmen will first assemble at Fort Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center in Barling for processing, medical screenings, and pre-mobilization training before departing for the nation’s capital after Thanksgiving.
Sanders said the soldiers “will help bring law and order back to the streets of Washington, D.C.,” and thanked them and their families for their service.
Brig. Gen. Chad Bridges, Adjutant General of Arkansas, said the troops are “well-prepared and ready to integrate with the D.C. National Guard and accomplish the mission.”
The deployment is part of a routine rotation of National Guard units supporting federal security operations.
