A six-month investigation by the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force has led to the arrest of an Independence County woman accused of distributing methamphetamine, authorities said Monday.

According to Drew Smith, prosecuting attorney for the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and Commander Johnny Byler, investigators focused on Donna Kay Shipman, 55, after developing evidence of suspected methamphetamine trafficking. The task force worked with the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, using controlled purchases and surveillance to build the case.

On Oct. 28, officers executed a search warrant at Shipman’s residence, seizing 26.9 grams of methamphetamine, 11 Clonazepam pills totaling 2.2 grams, and 14 Diazepam pills totaling 1.8 grams.

Shipman faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of delivery of methamphetamine, one count of maintaining a drug premises, one count of possession of methamphetamine greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, and two counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Smith said the operation demonstrates the ongoing partnership between local law enforcement and prosecutors in combating illegal drug distribution in Independence County.
