White River Health has broken ground on a major expansion of its Oncology & Infusion Center, a project hospital leaders say will boost capacity and patient comfort during cancer treatment.

Site preparation is scheduled to begin in December. Cromwell Architects Engineers designed the expansion, and FARCO is serving as the general contractor.

The project is funded through a White River Health Foundation capital campaign that has raised $5.4 million to date. Lead donors include Bad Boy Mowers and First Community Bank, along with grants from the Delta Regional Authority and the Mabee Foundation, as well as contributions from private and employee donors.

Hospital officials said the campaign reflects the region’s commitment to providing world-class cancer care close to home.

The expansion will more than double the center’s size, from 4,831 to 11,649 square feet. Plans include increased treatment capacity, enhanced privacy, updated oncology pharmacy space, improved nursing staff work areas, and dedicated space for nutritional support.

Additional features include a covered entrance for improved safety in inclement weather, a larger waiting area, and a healing garden and patio designed to offer a calming environment for patients and families.

“This is an exciting day for our hospital and for the patients that we serve,” said Steven Webb, White River Health president and CEO. “This expansion begins a new era of world-class comprehensive cancer care right here at home.”
