Joseph Schwartz
A former executive behind a network of nursing homes that once included a facility in Batesville (the former Batesville Nursing and Rehab) has been pardoned.
President Donald Trump issued a full pardon in mid-November to Joseph Schwartz, who ran Skyline Healthcare, a chain that operated dozens of nursing homes nationwide.
Schwartz pleaded guilty earlier this year to failing to pay approximately $38 million in payroll taxes withheld from employees across his facilities. The taxes never reached the Internal Revenue Service.
Skyline’s collapse between 2017 and 2019 left many residents, staff, and vendors scrambling as dozens of homes shut down, including facilities in Arkansas.
Schwartz was sentenced in April to three years in federal prison, plus fines and millions in restitution. President Trump’s pardon in mid-November wipes away the prison time and any unpaid fines or restitution.
