Stephan Richard Whaples
A weeklong manhunt in north central Arkansas is over.
Stephan Richard Whaples, 36, of Calico Rock, was booked into the Stone County Jail early Sunday morning after a manhunt that had been ongoing since Monday, Aug. 4. He is to be charged with two felonies — possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia — along with several misdemeanors, including fleeing on foot and multiple traffic violations.
According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, Whaples had fled from law enforcement officers twice in less than 24 hours early last week. On Aug. 3, he reportedly ran from an Arkansas State Police trooper on Dolph Road. A search of the area at that time was unsuccessful.
At about 3:15 a.m. the following day, deputies responded to a report that Whaples had been spotted in the 1500 block of West Crossroads. Before deputies arrived, he allegedly fled again. The Arkansas Department of Corrections dog team was called to assist in the search.
Whaples was also wanted for parole violations.
