Baxter County authorities are investigating the discovery of a deceased male found floating in Moccasin Creek near the Izard County line Thursday morning.
According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the nude body was spotted by a motorist traveling on State Highway 5 South around 8 a.m. Deputies responded to the scene, confirming the presence of the deceased individual. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, positive identification has not yet been made.
The Baxter County Coroner’s Office removed the body from the creek and transported it to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, which is crucial to the ongoing investigation.
To gather potential leads, deputies conducted a canvass of residences in the area. Additionally, a drone was deployed by the Mountain Home Police Department to conduct an aerial search for evidence. However, no additional information was obtained at this time, officials said.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office at (870) 425-7000.
