According to the Southside Volunteer Fire Department, a fire on Gem Street destroyed a home Friday morning, but no injuries were reported.
The department said it was dispatched to the scene at 10:25 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the structure. The Batesville, Pleasant Plains, and Desha fire departments were requested to provide additional assistance.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but the home was declared a total loss.
The Southside Volunteer Fire Department thanked Vital Link EMS and the Independence County Sheriff’s Office for their support during the response.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
