James Housdan (pictured) has been named principal of West Elementary School, the Batesville School District announced Thursday. His appointment is effective July 1, 2025.
The selection followed a review of candidates for the position. District Superintendent Dr. Kenneth James recommended Housdan to the school board, citing his extensive experience in teaching and administration.
Housdan currently serves as principal of Westside Elementary, a role he has held for the past five years. His previous positions include assistant principal at Parkers Chapel Elementary School and teaching roles across elementary, junior high, and high school levels, including time at Pulaski Academy.
According to the district, Housdan holds certification as a Science of Reading assessor and has experience as a professional development facilitator. Officials credited him with improving ESSA School Index Scores over a three-year span and noted his work in implementing standards-based grading and Universal Design for Learning. He also has grant-writing experience.
“Mr. Housdan has excelled in various positions during his tenure and has built extensive professional relationships with his staff, parents, and colleagues,” the district said in a statement.
Housdan is a graduate of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators’ Aspiring Superintendent Academy.
