More information has been released regarding a Monday morning crash that claimed the life of a Highland High School student.

According to Arkansas State Police, Kaine E. White, 18, of Walnut Ridge, died after his northbound 2004 Chevrolet lost control while negotiating a left curve on U.S. Highway 63 in Black Rock. The vehicle exited the roadway on the right side and traveled down a steep ravine.

The road was wet at the time of the crash, which was reported at 6:10 a.m., according to the fatality report.

On Monday, the Highland School District announced that a high school junior had died in a car accident on the way to school.

Although the student’s name was not initially released, officials said they were “traveling from out of town to school on Monday morning when the accident occurred.”

“Our Rebel family is grieving this loss, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones,” the district said in a statement. “As we navigate this difficult time, we ask our community to keep the family and our entire school in your thoughts and prayers.”

Earlier in the school year, another Highland High School died after a crash. Brooklynn Grace Pendarvis was killed shortly after 7 a.m. Sept. 13, on her way to school.
