A Batesville couple faces felony charges after their infant tested positive for methamphetamine following a traffic stop in May.
Matthew Shawn Matty, 44, and Tevis Virginia Matty, 42, were arrested on June 4 and charged with introducing a controlled substance into another person’s body and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
Batesville police assisted the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force with a traffic stop on May 20 and discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle occupied by the couple and their 8-month-old child, authorities said.
After the Arkansas Department of Human Services took custody of the child, a hair follicle drug screen conducted on the infant tested positive for methamphetamine on June 2, DHS caseworkers informed Investigator Kyle Williford.
According to court records, both individuals have prior arrests related to methamphetamine dating back to 2022. Medical records from the child’s birth also noted that Tevis Matty tested positive for MDMA at delivery, according to DHS.
