Hannah Johnson, an English language arts teacher in the Southside School District, has been awarded a Parsons-Burnett Grant by the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association.
The grant supports the continued education of practicing educators in Arkansas public schools. Johnson, a graduate of the University of Memphis, plans to use the funds to pursue coursework in the specialist in educational leadership and curriculum program at Arkansas State University.
Eight grants were awarded this year through a competitive application process. Contributions from members of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, or ARTA fund the grants.
Founded in 1939-40 with 15 members, ARTA now has more than 11,500 members. The organization works to protect and improve the professional, personal, social, and economic welfare of retired and future-retired public school employees in the state.
