The city of Batesville has reached a settlement with the Harry B. Stokes Post 4501, Veterans of Foreign Wars, resolving a legal dispute over property needed for the expansion of Riverside Park.
The Batesville City Council approved a resolution authorizing an additional payment of $268,750 to the VFW, bringing total compensation for the property at 1680 Chaney Drive to $878,750. The city had previously paid $610,000 for the parcel.
The settlement, reached June 10, resolves a pending case in Independence County Circuit Court. According to the city resolution, VFW leadership unanimously agreed to accept the total settlement amount.
The property purchase is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to expand Riverside Park. With the council’s approval, the city will release the final payment to complete the transaction.
