An 18-year-old man from the Pulaski County area died over the weekend in a single-vehicle crash on St. Louis Street.
Batesville Police Department Capt. Fred Friar stated Tuesday at the Batesville City Council meeting that officers were dispatched to the scene of a car fire near Tai Lee’s restaurant on Sunday, July 6. Friar indicated the driver reportedly passed the police department building before accelerating and hitting a retaining wall, at which point the car caught fire. The driver could not be saved.
Friar commented on the impact of such incidents on emergency personnel. “You can see a thousand of these things on YouTube, but until you experience one, you don’t know how it will affect you,” Friar said.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity. The accident remains under investigation.
