Authorities are searching for two suspects considered armed and dangerous after a police officer was assaulted earlier this morning during a traffic stop in a nearby community, the Beebe Police Department said Monday.
The incident began when the two men allegedly assaulted the officer and stole his vehicle. A pursuit followed and ended when the stolen vehicle crashed near the intersection of Beech Street and Dewitt Henry Drive in Beebe.
Police are advising residents in the area to shelter in place and remain vigilant.
“This is all of the information we have at this time,” the department said in a statement. “We will update this page as more information is available.”
Arkansas State University-Beebe said its campus would remain closed Monday until police give the all-clear. The Beebe School District said it was taking “appropriate safety precautions.”
Authorities have not released further details about the suspects or the officer’s condition.
