Cave City Mayor Jonas Anderson
Cave City has secured a $530,000 grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission to help replace aging sewer infrastructure, Mayor Jonas Anderson announced Tuesday.
The funds will cover most of an estimated $640,000 project to remove deteriorated concrete sewer mains dating back to the 1960s. The upgrades are part of a phased effort that has been underway for several years, Anderson said.
Crews are using a pipe bursting technique that causes minimal disruption, allowing the city to upgrade the lines by 2 inches and increase capacity for future growth.
Anderson credited support from the White River Planning and Development District and others statewide for helping secure the grant after months of outreach to officials in Little Rock and Washington, D.C.
While tornado recovery remains a top priority, Anderson said the city is continuing work on long-term infrastructure needs.
