Mountain View and Timbo school campuses were placed on a brief lockdown Thursday morning after law enforcement responded to a domestic incident in Stone County involving the parents of a student, authorities said.
The lockdown, which began around 10:15 a.m., was issued as a precaution while the dispute was addressed off campus, according to Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long. Officials said the child was at school at the time, but no threat was made toward the school community.
The measure was implemented in coordination with Mountain View School Resource Police and the Mountain View Police Department “to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff,” Long said.
After investigating, deputies determined there was no danger to students or staff, and the lockdown was lifted once law enforcement confirmed it was safe to resume normal operations.
“At no time was there an active threat to the school community,” Long said in a statement, adding that the safety of students remains the department’s highest priority. He credited the swift and professional response of school police and city officers.
