The west side of the Donald W. Mullins Library on the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus
UPDATE, 1:37 p.m.: According to the Northwest Arkansas news outlet KNWA, Fayetteville police say they do not see any evidence of an active shooter. They say they are still clearing buildings. The investigation is still active.
The University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville was placed on alert Monday afternoon following reports of an active shooter near the Mullins Library. Authorities confirmed a heavy law enforcement presence at the scene, but as of the latest reports, no injuries have been reported.
The University of Arkansas Police Department (UAPD) issued a “RazALERT” emergency notification just before 12:30 p.m. CDT, instructing students and staff to “Avoid the area of Mullins Library due to an active shooter reported. Avoid. Deny. Defend.”
In a related precautionary measure, Fayetteville Public Schools were placed on a “secure status,” meaning no one was allowed to enter or exit school buildings, although classes continued as scheduled.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Fayetteville Police Department, are assisting the UAPD with the ongoing situation, working to clear the library and secure the area. The situation remains fluid, with officials expected to provide more details as they become available.
