On Friday, Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery announced construction will soon begin on the next phase of the Greenway Trail, funded by a $115,000 federal Recreational Trails Program grant.
The upcoming construction will extend the existing trail system for less than a mile with a new 10-foot-wide section that will pass under the Highway 167 river bridge in Batesville and travel west along Southerland Drive, ending near River Street.
Jeffery said Independence County will provide in-kind work contributions as required by the federal grant terms.
