If you have a green thumb — or want to grow one — the Independence County Extension Office will offer Master Gardener training this fall.

The Independence County Extension Office is now accepting applications for its annual training, which begins in October. Participants may choose from two options: in-person/Zoom-based classes or a self-paced online course.

The in-person sessions will be held on Wednesdays from Oct. 22 to Nov. 19 at the Extension Office, 1770 Myers St. in Batesville. Classes run from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break. The cost is $85 and includes a textbook and materials.

The self-paced online training will be available Oct. 6 through Dec. 12 for $125.

Open to gardeners of all experience levels, the program requires participants to volunteer 40 hours in their first year and 20 hours annually thereafter in community horticulture projects.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 10. For more information or to register, call the Independence County Extension Office at 870-793-8840.
