Batesville residents may notice cloudy water or fire trucks parked along roadways in the coming weeks as the city’s fire department begins its annual fire hydrant testing.
According to the Batesville Fire Department, the inspection process started this week in the Westside area on North Central Avenue and is expected to take one to two months to complete, fire officials said.
Motorists are urged to use caution when driving near fire crews, who may need to briefly stop traffic while conducting tests. Officials said firefighters will work to minimize disruptions but warned drivers to slow down and stay alert for personnel working near hydrants.
Residents may also see discolored water during the testing period. The fire department recommends running water for a short time to help clear up any cloudiness.
Hydrant testing is performed to ensure that city water systems can provide adequate flow and pressure for firefighting. The process also helps identify maintenance needs, such as leaks, mechanical issues, or obstructions that could delay emergency response.
