Lyon College will make history on Saturday, Sept. 13, when the Scots football team takes the field for the first game at Bad Boy Mowers Stadium on the Lyon College campus in Batesville. Kickoff against the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
“This is a historic milestone for Lyon College,” said Dr. Melissa Taverner, president. “Bad Boy Mowers Stadium will not only elevate our football program but also bring students, alumni, and the community together in a shared space of pride and tradition.”
The first phase of the stadium project includes a regulation-size playing field, a press box, seating for 600 fans, a digital scoreboard, and restroom facilities. Designed to serve as a hub for both campus and community events, the facility offers modern amenities for players and fans.
“This project is a game-changer for Lyon College athletics,” said Kevin Jenkins, director of athletics. “It will help us recruit and retain talented student-athletes.”
The project was made possible through significant community and corporate partners. Bad Boy Mowers secured naming rights for the stadium, while Atlas Asphalt/White River Materials named the playing field. Additional major contributions came from the Bank of Cave City, First Community Bank, and Merchants and Planters Bank. Local construction firm FARCO oversaw the project. Donors will be recognized during halftime.
“This new complex is more than a football stadium. It’s a statement about our commitment to student-athletes and the future of Lyon College,” Head Coach Chris Douglas said. “Our team is grateful for the support and excited to take the field.”
Interim Vice President for Advancement Gina Garrett emphasized the importance of donor support in making the project a reality. Fundraising for future phases of the project is underway.
“We are deeply grateful for the support of our donors,” Garrett said. “There are still opportunities to be part of this historic project and create your legacy of giving for Lyon College’s first on-campus stadium.”
