Arkansas State University-Newport reported a 13.4% increase in enrollment for fall 2025, driven largely by growth in dual enrollment programs for high school students.
The institution enrolled 2,118 students across its three campuses in Newport, Jonesboro, and Marked Tree, up from 1,868 in fall 2024, according to university officials.
The largest growth came from high school students participating in early college programs, which increased nearly 30% year-over-year. A total of 606 high school students are earning college credit through ASUN while completing their high school diplomas.
“This growth reflects the trust students and families place in ASUN,” said Ike Wheeler, interim chancellor. “Whether they’re beginning their college journey, transferring, or earning dual credit in high school, students are selecting ASUN because we provide opportunity, support, and a clear path to success.”
Wheeler attributed the enrollment increase to the institution’s flexible class formats, workforce-focused programs, and expanding partnerships with local high schools.
“The increase in early college enrollment shows our deepening partnerships with area school districts and our commitment to helping students get ahead early,” Wheeler said. “It’s not just about enrollment numbers — it’s about changing lives.”
ASUN offers technical certificates, associate degrees, and transfer pathways to four-year institutions. The university serves both traditional and nontraditional students seeking accessible and affordable higher education options.
