White River Health will host a free prostate cancer screening Sept. 23 at White River Medical Center.
The screening will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. and is offered in association with Drs. Hunter Brown, Robert Emery, Thomas Soehner and Joel Ubeda of White River Health Surgery Clinic.
September is recognized as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society reports prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. The organization recommends men begin screenings at age 50, though those at higher risk — including African American men and men with a close relative diagnosed with prostate cancer — should start earlier.
An estimated 313,780 men nationwide will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2025, according to the American Cancer Society. When detected early, the five-year survival rate for localized prostate cancer is nearly 100%.
While the screening is free, appointments are required. To schedule, call 870-262-1834.
