The Old Independence Regional Museum has announced the appointment of Taylor Fitterling as its new director, tapping a local with a long history of volunteering at the institution to lead its future.
Fitterling’s appointment follows a decade of involvement with the museum, where he began in the gift shop before moving on to work with the archival collections. His new role will involve leading day-to-day operations, supervising staff, and directing the research and design of new exhibits. He will also be responsible for expanding the museum’s programming and overseeing its archival management.
Prior to his appointment, Fitterling served as a legislative support specialist for the Bureau of Legislative Research during the Ninety-Fifth General Assembly of the Arkansas State Legislature. He holds a Master of International Affairs from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Arts from Lyon College.
James Sturch, president of the museum’s board, expressed confidence in the new director. “His combination of academic training, professional experience, and long-standing relationship with the museum makes him uniquely qualified to lead us into the future,” Sturch said in a statement. “We are confident he will be instrumental in enhancing our operations, expanding our outreach, and enriching the visitor experience for years to come.”
