A utility lineman works on downed power poles along the U.S. Highway 167 heading into Batesville early Friday morning.
Linemen worked Friday morning to repair utility poles snapped by strong winds after heavy storms swept through Batesville and surrounding areas, leaving behind flooded roads and downed infrastructure but no immediate reports of injuries.
The storms began around 3:45 a.m. as the National Weather Service issued a series of warnings, including a Special Weather Statement at 3:38 a.m. and a Flash Flood Warning at 4:30 a.m.
Radar indicated intense downpours across the city, with cells capable of producing gusts up to 40 mph. The weather prompted concerns of flash flooding in low-lying areas, where ponding and runoff made travel hazardous.
Utility crews were seen along U.S. Highway 167 near the viaduct into Batesville, where several poles had been damaged in the wind.
