A Florida man has been arrested in connection with the July killing of his sister in Arkansas, authorities said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in DeLand, Florida, arrested Mark R. Brown, 68, Wednesday afternoon on a capital murder charge in the death of his sister, Mona Sloop, 69, of Leslie, the Arkansas State Police said.
Sloop was found dead at her home on Shady Grove Road in Searcy County on July 22.
The arrest followed a joint investigation involving the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, the Searcy County Sheriff’s Office and the 20th Judicial District Drug Crimes Task Force. State police said agents traveled to Florida with Searcy County investigators to collect evidence that led to Brown’s arrest.
Brown was booked into the Volusia County Detention Center, where he awaits extradition to Arkansas.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities said additional arrests are possible.
