A group of residents unhappy about the construction of new apartments in their neighborhood will be meeting with city officials next week.

Last October, the Batesville City Council approved property off Dogwood Drive East from Commercial-1 to Residential-2, which allows multi-family homes (apartments, duplexes, etc.) to be built there.

The rezoning request was submitted by John Ramsey and White River Independent Living, LLC.  Ramsey came before the City Planning and Zoning Commission at its Oct. 10, 2024, meeting and said he wished to build two duplexes, one on either side of the dead-end street at the end of Dogwood East. The commission voted to approve the rezoning, which was then submitted to the city council for final approval.

Since then, Ramsey sold the property to Azemi Southside Living, LLC in February of this year.

Jon Perkins, a spokesman for the neighborhood, said he has seen plans for 12, not four, apartments.

The residents of the Dogwood East neighborhood will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Batesville City Hall with city officials to discuss the issues.
