First Baptist Church in Batesville recently broke ground on its new 26,000-square-foot church building on a 15-acre property along Eagle Mountain Boulevard.

A secondary 4,400-square-foot facility will house various ministries. Church leaders said the move will allow for future growth, as the current East Main Street location is landlocked.

“We’re surrounded on all four sides by street … having this acreage is going to be phenomenal for being able to do more activities for our kids and the community. We’ve got big plans to engage our community in this building,” Pastor Stacy Reed recently told Arkansas Baptist News.

Reed the expanded site will better serve children and the community, while Church Administrator Gene Tulberg said the project fulfills a vision decades in the making. The new, single-level building will feature a 600-seat auditorium, modernized classroom space, a centralized entrance, and additional parking.

“We treat this as a launch, a launch of a new church,” Reed said. “We’re truly relaunching a 178-year-old church because the Lord has been moving since COVID.”

The estimated $7.5 million project began Sept. 28 and is expected to be completed in about 14 months.
