The Arkansas Bean Fest and Championship Outhouse Races return to Mountain View this weekend with food, music, and events centered around the courthouse square.
The festival begins Friday with an artisan market, food and merchandise vendors, and live music downtown through the day.
At 7 a.m. Saturday, teams will light their burners for the Bean Fest cooking contest. Music will resume at 10:30 a.m., followed by a community meal of beans and cornbread at noon and the announcement of contest winners.
The Championship Outhouse Races will follow an outhouse parade at 1 p.m. Live music will continue throughout the afternoon and evening. In the event of rain, performances will move inside the Stone County Courthouse.
The Bean Fest has been held annually since 1982 and regularly draws large crowds to downtown Mountain View.
Mayor Roger Gardner described the festival as the town’s “biggest blowout of the year” in a visit this morning on Arkansas 103.3 KWOZ with White River Now’s Chad Whiteaker. Listen to their conversation below:
