On Nov. 18, the Cave City School District will ask voters to approve a restructuring of existing debt — with no increase in the current 39-mill rate — to generate about $7.44 million.
According to a statement released by the district on Monday, the funding is the required local match to unlock $12.75 million in state partnership funding previously approved for a planned 72,000-square-foot K-5 facility. The total project cost is estimated at $25 million to $27 million, with $6.1 million already set aside in the building fund.
The current elementary school core dates from the 1960s and suffers from aging plumbing, roofs, and HVAC systems. The new facility would include a secure single-entry system, video surveillance, and a safe room for both students and the wider community.
Despite its millage staying at 39 mills, the district notes that this rate remains below the state average. The district also touts its ranking as 19th of 250 statewide and the highest-rated in north-central Arkansas.
Voting locations will be at Bailey’s Next Door in Cave City and Faith Assembly of God in Evening Shade, with early voting at the Sharp County Courthouse.
