Deschutes County is asking local organizations and businesses that offer food to SNAP recipients and families facing food insecurity to register with 211info so people can find help fast.
In an Oct. 29 news release, Governor Tina Kotek declared a 60-day food emergency and directed $5 million in emergency funding to keep food flowing to families during the federal government shutdown.
The Governor also issued a statewide call to action encouraging donations to local food banks, and Deschutes County responded. The Board of County Commissioners committed $35,000 each to NeighborImpact and The Giving Plate, and organizations and businesses countywide are offering food to help families in our community.
If you are a local organization or business offering food, please sign up with 211info. 211 is a free, statewide service that connects people to help, but it can’t connect people to places it doesn’t know exist.
