As food assistance programs see rising demand during the ongoing federal government shutdown, Stone Bank has donated $1,000 to the Stone County Community Food Ministry to help local families in need.
Across the state, food banks are reporting heavier use as federal nutrition programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—which serves more than 240,000 Arkansans each month—face uncertainty. Many food assistance organizations have begun distributing supplies originally intended for the holiday season to meet immediate needs.
“With so many families facing uncertainty about their next meal, we knew we had to take action,” said Nick Roach, president and CEO of Stone Bank. “Our customers and neighbors are the heart of our communities, and we want them to know Stone Bank stands beside them, especially during challenging times like these.”
The donation is part of $10,000 in total contributions Stone Bank has made to food banks in communities where it operates, including Little Rock, Harrison, White Hall, DeWitt, Gillett and Mountain View.
“The Stone County Community Food Ministry is a vital resource for many families here in Mountain View,” said April Wilkins, Stone Bank Mountain View branch manager. “We’re proud to support their ongoing work to make sure no one in our community goes without food during difficult times.”
The Stone County Community Food Ministry, located inside the Dorcas Thrift Shop building at 310 School Ave. in Mountain View, provides monthly food assistance to eligible clients. Food distribution is held Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Stone Bank’s Mountain View branch is located at 802 E. Main St.
