A months-long investigation by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a Mountain View man accused of distributing child sexual exploitation material, authorities said.

Lt. Jenifer Osborn began investigating in April after the sheriff’s office received a tip that illegal material was being distributed from a device in Stone County, Sheriff Brandon Long said in a statement Wednesday.

Investigators traced the activity to a residence on Herpel Road and obtained a search warrant, which was executed on Monday, Nov. 3.

During the search, detectives arrested Kris Aaron Copeland, 47, of Mountain View. Copeland was charged with two counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, both Class C felonies, according to Long.

His bond was set at $25,000. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges could be filed pending review by the prosecuting attorney’s office.
