Authorities in Stone County are investigating the death of an out-of-state resident whose body was found Sunday afternoon near the rural community of Fifty-Six.
Stone County dispatch received a report around 4:20 p.m. of a deceased individual in the Tie Ridge Road area, according to Sheriff Brandon Long. Deputies and U.S. Forest Service rangers responded to the scene and located a person who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted injury.
Because of the nature of the incident and its location, detectives were called in to conduct further investigation. Long said initial evidence is consistent with a self-inflicted death, but investigators are continuing a thorough examination to ensure there was no foul play involved.
The individual has been identified as a resident from outside Arkansas. Authorities are withholding the person’s name pending notification of next of kin and completion of the on-scene investigation.
