Two people were found dead following an early-morning house fire in Izard County, authorities said.
An Izard County sheriff’s deputy discovered the fire at about 3:40 a.m. Thursday near the 5000 block of Arkansas Highway 56 in the Violet Hill area, according to a news release from the Izard County Sheriff’s Office.
The Franklin Fire Department responded to the blaze with assistance from the Melbourne Fire Department. Deputies said occupants were believed to be inside the residence at the time of the fire.
After the fire was brought under control, the bodies of two individuals were found inside the home, the sheriff’s office said.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. The bodies will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
Authorities are withholding the names of the deceased pending identification and notification of next of kin.
