A 53-year-old woman was killed, and two children were injured in a two-vehicle collision late Friday afternoon on U.S. 49 in Craighead County, authorities said.
The Arkansas State Police reported that the crash happened at about 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the intersection of U.S. 49 and Honeysuckle in Brookland. Preliminary findings indicate a northbound vehicle crossed the center turn lane and struck a southbound vehicle in the opposite lane, sending both vehicles off the highway into ditches.
The lone fatality was identified as Becky Annette Anderson, 53, of Imboden, who was the driver of the northbound vehicle. Two minors in the southbound Chevrolet were treated for injuries and taken to NEA Hospital, where they remain in care, according to the report.
Weather conditions were clear, and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash, the preliminary report said.
