A temporary burn ban is now in effect across Independence County, as officials warn that weather conditions have heightened the risk of wildfires.
County Judge Kevin Jeffery said the ban is effective as of Thursday due to gusty winds up to 30 miles per hour and very low humidity. Those conditions, he said, make outdoor burning especially dangerous.
Residents are urged to avoid all outdoor burning until further notice as fire crews remain on alert across the county.
Jeffery also expressed gratitude to local fire departments for their continued efforts to protect the community during hazardous conditions.
Neighboring Sharp County is also under a burn ban until further notice.
