An Independence County man and woman face felony charges after authorities say they lured a former co-worker to a local park to be ambushed and robbed, allegedly motivated by knowledge that the victim had recently received his paycheck.
Hugh James Stiles, 51, and Jordan Lenn Robbins, 23, were arrested March 11 following an investigation into the March 3 attack at Bayou Park. The victim told police Robbins picked him up in her car before a masked man pulled him from the vehicle, assaulted him, and stole his phone and glasses.
While Robbins claimed she fled in fear, hotel surveillance footage showed her and Stiles leaving and returning together during the time of the robbery. During her interview, Robbins allegedly bit an investigator on the arm while resisting the seizure of her cellphone, resulting in an additional battery charge.
A forensic search of the suspects’ phones revealed messages from Stiles instructing Robbins to “Hustle Marcos cash girl.” A deleted message sent by Robbins the following morning read, “Scooby Doo reporting for duty.” Witnesses later told police Stiles admitted to hiding in the woods to wait for the victim.
Stiles, charged as a habitual offender, is held on a $50,000 bond for robbery and tampering with evidence. Robbins faces accomplice and battery charges on two separate bonds totaling $35,000. She is scheduled for a March 17 court appearance.
