Night Work on Bend’s Franklin Avenue Begins

bend_water_services687880

The first phase of the Franklin Avenue Improvements will begin with night work on Monday, May 18 between First Street and Fourth Street. The night work will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize traffic impacts. During this phase, expect lane closures and occasional delays with flagging, but traffic will remain open in both directions.

This first phase of work will replace aging water pipes, and the following phases of work will take place over the next year and a half. Business access will be maintained throughout construction and emergency response access will be maintained at all times.

Planned schedule for future phases of work:

  • Late June: Complete street rebuilding from First Street to Fourth Street, with traffic signal improvements at Third Street, will begin in June. This work will require one-way lane closures on Franklin beginning with Third Street to Fourth Street.
  • September: Work will move west from First Street to Hill Street in September. This will require a full closure of Franklin Avenue, including the undercrossing. Detour routes will include Greenwood, Olney and Colorado avenues.
  • Thanksgiving–New Year’s: The undercrossing will reopen temporarily from Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) through New Year’s Day (Jan. 1).
  • January: Road work will resume in January with the full closure of Franklin Avenue from Harriman Street to First Street, including the undercrossing.

One side of the undercrossing path will remain open at all times for pedestrians and cyclists.
