Popular Christian music singer Anne Wilson (pictured), known for “My Jesus” and other songs, will headline Freedom Fest 2024 at John 3:16 Ministries on Saturday, June 22, according to a release from John 3:16.
Admission is free. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
Corporate tables may be purchased and will include dinner. However, concessions will also be sold.
Seating will be provided for the concert, but those attending may also bring blankets or chairs (no coolers, please).
There will be bounce houses for children, and the event will also include a live auction at 6 p.m. featuring a limited number of items made or refurbished by the residents at John 3:16.
Opening for Anne Wilson will be the John 3:16 Band at 7 p.m., and Wilson will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
A fireworks show will end the night.
John 3:16 Instructor Brent Waugh noted that the ministry has brought some big names in Christian music to the Charlotte area, such as Zach Williams, King & Country and Matthew West.
“We are so thankful to everyone who has come out to our events and supported the ministry. We haven’t slowed down – we are still taking men and women every Sunday,” Waugh said. “Iron sharpens iron, and at John 3:16 we are giving people a foundation and setting them on a new path, one that follows Jesus and delivers them from their addictions.”
Kentucky native Wilson is a Grammy-nominated, Dove Award-winning singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, “…with a transcendent vocal, down-to-Earth storytelling, and a Heaven-sent desire to glorify Jesus,” the release said.
Besides “(Let Me Tell You About) My Jesus,” Wilson’s hits include “Sunday Sermons,” “Hey Girl,” “I Still Believe in Christmas,” “Just Because It’s Christmas,” “Devil,” “Mamas” featuring Hillary Scott, “Rebel,” and “Rain in the Rearview.”
Finding her musical mission in the wake of tragedy, Wilson delivered her first public performance at 15 while singing Hillsong’s “What a Beautiful Name” at her brother’s funeral. A video of her performance went viral and she was offered a record deal, releasing her debut single, “My Jesus,” in 2021.
The track made Wilson the first debut female solo artist in chart history to reach No.1 and went on to be named ASCAP’s 2022 Christian Music Awards Song of the Year.
Wilson was nominated for a Grammy for her 2022 debut album “My Jesus” (making her the only female in the category for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album), and has already won two GMA Dove Awards (New Artist of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for “My Jesus”) and two K-LOVE Fan Awards (Female Artist of the Year and Breakout Single for “My Jesus”), while also scoring a American Music Award nomination (Favorite Inspirational Artist).
Making her Grand Ole Opry debut in 2021, Wilson continues to perform to live audiences, while being named to both the RIAA Class of 2022 and Pandora’s Artists to Watch 2023: Christian/Gospel, and also publishing a bestselling book titled “My Jesus: From Heartache To Hope” last fall. Her song “Hey Girl” is out now and has led to the creation of Hey Girl Nation, a community for fans to connect and encourage self-worth. Wilson is looking ahead to a new chapter – one that builds on her vision, and continues to blur the musical divide, according to the release.
“It’s the heart of Christian music, the sound of country, and the hope of Jesus,” she says. “I hope it all points back to Him.”
Since 2003, John 3:16 has been helping men conquer their drug and alcohol addictions at no cost to them. Last year, a women’s ministry was added to the camp, which is now home to approximately 200 men and 20 women. In those two decades, some 2,000 people have graduated.
From day 1 when someone asks how much it will cost for their loved one to attend, the camp’s founder, Bryan Tuggle, has always explained, “Jesus Christ already paid the price,” the release said. The ministry is primarily funded by donations and fundraisers.
John 3:16 Ministries is located at 75 Holmes Road in Charlotte. For more information about Freedom Fest, call (870) 799-2525 or visit John316thecure.com.
